We'd been to Passau before and didn't think we needed all the time the coach option wold offer us there. We did the right thing, as it turned out, as this stretch of the river was just about the prettiest so far ....
Misty morning on the Danube
Dedicated to St Wolfgang who was bishop of Regensburg in Bavaria from Christmas 972 until his death on 31 October 994 in Pupping, Austria which is the community behind here
Coaches waiting to take passengers to Passau.
"Vegetable Play Area" - ummmm!
This is Aschach an der Donau, the place where the cruise ended on 28 July and where we finally disembarked
Bet you never thought how exciting locks could be!
Wheelhouse sinks below the sun deck to avoid low obstructions overhead
Almost all the locks on the Danube are also mini hydro-electric plants
The captain asked everyone on the sun deck to duck!
Stylish looking ferry!
Lots of cycling and camping everywhere we went along the river
There doesn't appear to be a speed limit on this part of the river!
I think I'd want a life jacket on this river!
Houses with a view!
Another ferry 'cross the Danube
This is Obermühl an der Donau with an inlet which is probably and oxbow lake
|
And this is the Gasthof Gierlinger where 3 nights or more of half board will set you back £47.62 per person per night. They do bike hire for guests. How good is that? See - https://www.gasthof-gierlinger.at/startseite.html
This is the Gasthof Reisinger at Halbach ob der Donau
This is the Gasthaus Steindl at Pucking
Car on the back!
Another lovely ferry
This is the Donauschlinge Riverresort, situated on a large U-bend in the Danube. It is pricey!
Fire brigade boat on the left and the river police on the right
Last ferry on this side before the German border
The house is in Germany
Almost the full Monty here - car on top plus kiddies' playpen complete with slide. Only the washing line full of clothes is missing!
OMG it's a Swarovski ship
Approaching Passau and it's raining hard. The Danube is straight ahead and the modest River Ilz joins from the right by the tower
The River Inn joins from the left. It rises in Switzerland and flows through Austria until it gives way to the Danube just in Germany
River Ilz
Beautiful window boxes
Not much headroom
Do you like the potted palm trees on this trip boat?
