We then got ready for our first excursion - a coach tour of Budapest. We were greeted by our excellent guide, Agi, who was most informative. She attempted to teach us done Hungarian but it is a language like no other (apart from Finnish) so she didn't have much success.
Budapest is a beautiful city with magnificent buildings. Our first stop was at the ?? for lovely views over the Danube. We then drove around the city over the Elisabeth (named after Sissi not HMQ), the Chain Bridge and the Margaret Bridge. We learned that the underground in Budapest is the 2nd oldest in the world after London and that ideas the first Eastern Bloc country to have MacDonald's.
Our next stop was at ?? Square where commemorations were taking place. We then moved onto the castle area which had more wonderful views over the Danube.
Several of us were sad not to see the shoe memorial which Jane MacDonald had told us about. It was on the opposite side of the river from our boat and we had virtually no free time here. G attempted a photo from the top deck.
Then it was lunch, muster (much less fuss than on a cruise ship) and then a chill out in the pool area. We didn't go in the pool but certainly will do at some stage. During lunch we set off at a leisurely pace to Bratislava which apparently takes 15 hrs.
