Day 5: Dürnstein

We'd already docked in Dürnstein before we awoke. Our cabin was very dark and we imagined it  was a cloudy and possibly wet  morning. In fact we were moored next to another board which was blocking all our light.  The moral is not to book an expensive balcony cabin because a ship moored right next to your ship will block out almost all light from your cabin however high up you are.

After breakfast we had a short walk into Dürnstein, a small, pretty village. After a quick look round, we returned to the boat for a sail along the Danube to Melk.

The ship next door

The castle where Richard the Lionheart was held captive for ransom by Leopold who was promptly excommunicated by the Pope for capturing a fellow crusader!
